About web2express.org

Mission

Uses open development process to promote open data and explore new and more efficient ways (such as semantic web) to share data across the web.

Description

This web site is an open lab pursuing Web Science openly. It started out as open source project for supporting the W3C HCLS’s scientific publishing task force in 2006. It is now developing web2express.org site to promote open data on the semantic web for the larger community.

- Open your data for a better world -

Semantic web provides the necessary languages and standards to represent not only data but also relationships within the data. When your data are presented in semantic format on the web, people will be able to find them more precisely through search engines supporting semantic web.

One application area that we are focusing on is data feed for any individual or organization. We think feeding data in semantic web format along with the traditional web feed formats (e.g. RSS, Atom) will give the data its full potentials.

Another exciting area is the research and development space, where semantic web is becoming the best platform for any laboratory or organization to open and share experiment data at experiment level. Traditionally, experiment data are shared only in summarized form as publication. But, each individual experiment has its own value deserved to be shared and re-used with the community regardless it is published in traditional sense or not. Furthermore, in open data environment, data can be shared immediately after experiments are completed, removing the delay in scientific communication. In Tim Berners-Lee’s recent paper, it was predicted that the semantic web “could bring about a revolution in how, for example, scientific content is managed throughout its life cycle.” I’m sure that sharing of raw experiment data will be part of this revolution.

Services and Tools being developed to support semantic web data sharing:

  1. Ufeed web site: free service for organizations and individuals to create Data Feeds and Semantic Data Resources.
  2. Web2x semantic publishing plugin for Wordpress blogger, free open source software. More… Demo
  3. Ontology for Self-Publishing of Experiments (SPE) from W3C HCLS SIG.
  4. Community search site for research and development. More…
