About web2express.org
Mission
Uses open development process to develop free tools and services for the purpose of promoting open communication, open data and more efficient data sharing across the web.Description
This web site is an open lab pursuing Web Science openly. It started out as an open source project for supporting the W3C HCLS’s scientific publishing task force in 2006. At the end of 2006, I also started the Semantic Web SIG for SDForum.org, the largest software/internet organization in Silicon Valley. Since then, I have been exploring semantic technology and semantic web technology with a aim to find practical ways that will help move the web to the next level.
- Open your data for a better world -
Semantic web provides the necessary languages and standards to model not only data but also the relationships among data. When more and more data are presented in semantic format on the web, I believe we will then be able to realize the full value of the data.
The most significant trend that will emerge from this web of data is web intelligence benefiting the public or consumers. Empowered by collective intelligence, people will become more productive with their life, such as communicating better to the world, connecting better to friends and social groups, finding more accurate and timely information, etc. The hallmark of this next level web we are about to enter is intelligence for everyone!
Social networking on the web is changing people’s life in a big way, particularly for young people. With web intelligence, social networking is going to become more powerful.
On top of the current web of documents, a new layer of linked data is forming, where semantic data are flowing from web servers of individuals and organizations. By feeding all your data to the semantic web, you open new channels for connecting to your fiends or your customers.
Scientific publishing is gradually recognizing that semantic web can serve as an ideal platform for opening and sharing experiment data at the experiment level. Traditionally, experiment data are shared as publications, which summarize experiments. But, each individual experiment has its own value and is deserved to be shared and re-used within the community. Furthermore, in open data environment, data can be shared immediately after experiments are completed, removing the delay in scientific communication. In Tim Berners-Lee’s recent paper, it was predicted that the semantic web “could bring about a revolution in how, for example, scientific content is managed throughout its life cycle.” I’m sure that sharing of raw experiment data will be part of this revolution.
Free services and tools being developed at web2express.org:
- Digest of fresh web contents like Twitter messages, blogs, news, forums, chats. This real time analysis provides users an effective way to follow daily topics and talk about topics openly.
- Unified data feed self-service web site: let organizations and individuals create data feeds for a variety of data types.
- Web2x semantic publishing plugin for Wordpress blogger, free open source software. More… Demo.
- Ontology for Self-Publishing of Experiments (SPE) from W3C HCLS SIG.
- Community search site for research and development. More…
